Ramadan
Thursday, September 13, 2007

It's that special time of year again where the thoughts of yourself should be placed on the side and one should concentrate on ones family and relations with Allah.
I have been so busy at work it has snuck up on me and Hajer told me last night that today was the first day (not in time for me to get a good nights sleep mind). We tend to go inline with Tunisia though I see that the UK and Tunisia are on the same start day this year.
Start Fast 4:50am - Break fast 19:30
no food
no drink
no swearing
no hows your father
For anyone new to Ramadan there is a is a great amound of information on the internet as as usual Wikipedia has a great starting point.
Ramadan is the most holy time for Muslims where they remember the power of the Koran and how Allah revealed it's message to the prophet Mohammed peace be upon him during this time people try to be better more generous and ensure that they see their families.
Myself and Hajer will be spending Ramadan in Tunisia and we are both looking forward to it as should all visitors. We get asked all the time if this is a good time to visit and I would say yes as you will still find it ok in resorts to find food etc and you will also get to experience a cultural event however please hold in mind that people are fasting.
Hajer tells me (as she watches TV) that this is also the best time for Arabic Tv as the specials come out along with the big movies. These are mostly on the large television stations based in the gulf however there is a Tunisian favourite Shoufi Hal which means "find me a solution" (apologies for the spelling)which seems to be compulsory viewing for the kids and I can just about fathom the antics of Spoi and the Doctor.
No doubt I will post some updates soon but until then Moubarak and have a lovely time with your families.
